Older PCs can lead to productivity loss, security vulnerabilities for SMBs in South India: Microsoft study

Small and MediumBusinesses (SMBs) in South India, using older PCs, are likely to experience reduced work place productivity and security vulnerablities, according to a Microsoft study.

SMBs using computers that are over four years old and running older operating systems will experience significantly reduced workplace productivity as compared to newer PCs, it said.

The older PCs also expose organisations to security vulnerabilities and IT threats, according to Microsoft India.

SMBs have experienced older PCs being repaired almost four times than that of new PCs.This can amount to at least 96 hours' worth of productive time lost.

Recovering data and maintaining business continuity is among the topmost challenges for SMBs in the South.

In the last year alone, 25 per cent of SMBs surveyed in South India said they had experienced a security breach.

Nearly 40 per cent of SMBs in the southern states are using outdated PCs and 62 per cent, older versions of Windows, the study said.

SMBs in the South, who have embraced a modern workplace strategy, have experienced multiple benefits for businesses and employees, including higher productivity, better security and reduced operating costs. - PTI

நான்கு ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக ஒரே கணினியை, அதிலும் பழைய ஆப்பரேட்டிங் சிஸ்டத்தை பயன்படுத்துவதால் தென்னிந்தியாவில் உள்ள சிறுமட்டும் நடுத்தர வணிக நிறுவனங்கள் பாதிக்கப்படும் அபாயம் உள்ளதாக மைக்ரோசாப்ட் நிறுவனம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. இதனால் உற்பத்தி திறனுக்கும், கணினி தகவல் பாதுகாப்புக்கும் சிக்கல் ஏற்படும் என்று மைக்ரோசாப்ட் சுட்டிக்காட்டியுள்ளது.

பழைய கணினியை பயன்படுத்துவதால் நிறுவனங்களின் தகவல் தொழில்நுட்பத்துக்கு அச்சுறுத்தல் ஏற்படவும் பாதுகாப்பு தொடர்பான சிக்கல்கள் ஏற்படவும் வாய்ப்புள்ளதாக மைக்ரோசாப்ட் இந்தியா நிறுவனம் கூறியுள்ளது.

பெரும்பாலான சிறு மற்றும் நடுத்தரவணிக நிறுவனங்கள் தங்களிடம் உள்ளபழைய கணினியை மூன்றிலிருந்து நான்கு முறை பழுது பார்த்து பயன்படுத்துகின்றனவே தவிர புதிய கணினியை வாங்குவதில்லை. இதனால் 96 மணிநேரத்துக்குரிய உற்பத்தித் திறன்பாதிக்கப்படுகிறது.

இழந்த தகவல்களை மீட்டெடுப்பது, வணிக தொடர்புகளை பராமரிப்பது ஆகியவையே நிறுவனங்கள் எதிர்கொள்ளும் மிகப் பெரிய சவால்களாக உள்ளன. கடந்த ஆண்டில் மட்டும் 25 சதவீததென்னிந்திய சிறு மற்றும் நடுத்தர வணிகநிறுவனங்கள் தகவல் திருட்டு உள்ளிட்ட பாதுகாப்பு மீறலை எதிர்கொண்டன.

தென் மாநிலங்களில் உள்ள 40 சதவீத சிறு மற்றும் நடுத்தர வணிக நிறுவனங்கள் காலாவதியான கணினிகளையும் 62 சதவீத நிறுவனங்கள் விண்டோஸ் ஆப்பரேட்டிங் சிஸ்டத்தின் பழைய பதிப்பையும் பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன என்கிறது இந்த ஆய்வு.

மறுபுறம் நவீன பணிச்சூழல் முறைகளைப் பின்பற்றி வரும் தென்னிந்திய சிறு மற்றும் நடுத்தர வணிக நிறுவனங்கள் வணிக ரீதியாகவும் ஊழியர்கள்தரப்பிலும் பல பலன்களை அடைந்திருக்கின்றன. குறிப்பாக அதிக அளவிலான உற்பத்தி, சிறப்பான பாதுகாப்பு மற்றும் குறைந்த செலவில் செயல்பாடு இந்நிறுவனங்களுக்குச் சாத்தியப்பட்டு இருக்கிறது. -பிடிஐ
